Hi,
hoping someone has some advice on whether it is worth going down the Consumer Rights act route in relation to my LG washer-dryer.
We bought the washer dryer in May 2017, brand new from Currys. It was actually one of the more expensive models at the time (costing around £570). It has recently developed a fault whereby it would make loud noises when on the spin cycles, and would also trip the electricity quite a lot.
We rang LG in October who told us that it was no longer under warranty, but they could offer us a service that would fix the washer dryer regardless of what the issue was for £145 (inclusive of any parts that may be needed). We decided to go for it, and an engineer came to look at the washer dryer. He advised us he needed to order some parts in to fix, and would be able to come back in a couple of weeks to fix.
A couple of weeks went by, and we had an email from LG on the day the engineer was due to come back to fix, advising us there was a delay in getting the part and would need to push back the engineer appointment to 30th December. Whilst annoying, we agreed to wait and make do with washing ours and the kids clothes at the in-laws.
However, we have just had contact today from LG who have said they no longer make the part so are unable to repair the washer dryer. They have offered to refund the money we paid for the fix service.
Personally, I feel that a washer dryer (especially one that cost that much) should last a lot longer than 4 and a half years, and if it breaks, should at least be repairable. Are my expectations unrealistic? If not, do I have any courses of action that I can take?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
