  • Car Dealership Warranty Problem

    Hello all

I'm looking for some advice for a problem with a car dealership, the problem is to do with the warranty of a used car that I bought from them. They've registered the warranty one day earlier than the date that I bought the car from them, this resulted in me not being able to repair an issue with the car that would have otherwise been covered by the warranty. Here's the summary of what's happened:

    1. Paid £400 holding deposit for car on 20/07/2020.
    2. Bought car on 21/07/2020 after doing a test drive.
    3. The car dealership registered the one year warranty from 20/07 instead of 21/07.
    4. Took the car in to dealership for repair on 20/07/2021, was told that they can't fix the issue under the warranty as it has finished on 19/07/2021 (It should have ended at the end of the day on 20/07/2021)
    5. Made a complaint to the dealership and the car manufacturer, they didn't admit any fault regarding the dates of the warranty and they didn't offer any help.

That's what's happened so far, the repair will cost roughly £700 which I can't really afford at the moment. I'd really appreciate some advice regarding what I should do next, do I have a claim against them in small claims court?

    Hi GGeorge

Send the following letter to the dealership, amend to your situation. Send Recorded Delivery. See what they say, only communicate in writing.

Clearly the warranty starts from the date of purchase, you have proof that is the purchase date.

      What requires repairing?

"The car dealership registered the one year warranty from 20/07 instead of 21/07."

      When did you notice this?

Literally on the day that I took the car in for repair (20/07/21), I was sure that the car would be under warranty so when they said that it's not I was a bit confused, after doing some investigation and contacting the warranty company I found out that the warranty had began 1 day earlier than the date the car was purchased on.
