  • Accused of stealing medicine - RLP civil recovery specialist have sent me a letter

This is quite embarrassing. I use to work at a well known pharmacy in the UK. I was accused and eventually fired for taking medication from the pharmacy. It was a very dark time and I trying to put it behind me.

2 days ago, I received a letter from RLP. The letter says they are acting on behalf of the company I worked for. They are saying I need to pay £300 towards the cost of the lost medicine and the investigation that led to my dismissal. I'm terrified now. I was just starting to put those dark days behind me. Now it's all come back. I can't afford this amount of money as I only have a 12hr contract at a local shop.

I've kept this situation secret from my family out of shame. I don't know what to do. This really took me by surprise. Do I just have to find a way to pay it? Because it involves medicine I'm especially worried and ashamed.

    Hi Oney97

Just ignore them, they are more talk then bite. They lost a well known case, so can't do much other then send letters, which you should ignore. Try not to worry.

I've seen post about people who were caught shoplifting. The replies to those posts are also to ignore the letters. Does the fact my case involves taking medication from the place i worked make things any different?

No, the letters still come from the same source, no doubt you'll receive few more, if I remember correctly, each one more desperate then the last.

At the risk of worrying you more, suggest you check the https://legalbeagles.info/forums/for...oss-prevention
There are a number of cases involving theft from employers

Here's a link to a couple of Boot's employees who went through the same situation. (there are more if you look)
          https://legalbeagles.info/forums/for...ng-from-employ

Do you know the value of the drugs you stole?
Whilst Boots have a valid claim for that amount, their recovery and investigatory costs are doubtful,
Your problem is the possibility that Boots will report the incident(s) to the police, which to an extent depends on the value of the stolen drugs, as well as the type of drugs involved.

How long ago was the incident?
          What was value of drugs?
          What sort of drugs?
          Were the police involved?

The value was £92 and it was in march this year. It was 80 capsules of tramadol. The police weren't involved.

Where did you get that price from? Of course tramadol are I believe a controlled drug but wholesale cost about 50p each I think. We’re you taking yourself?
