  • Banned from store for shoplifting- advice needed regarding ban

Today I got caught shoplifting at a supermarket. The security guard approached me and told me to empty my bag, retrieved the receipt fromt the self checkout machine and that is how I was caught. I was given a written notice of ban from the store and any of the branches, but the police was not contacted.

I feel extremely guilty and ashamed for this and know that I will never ever do this again. The thing though is that I have been repeatedly shoplifting at the store and know that if they check the CCTV, they will see that.
The reason I have been shoplifting is because I am a student and do not want to burden my parents any more than I do now, and also because I have an eating disorder where I feel compelled to binge etc.

I am full of remorse and am extremely embarassed. I have learned my lesson and will never do anything like this.

A concern that I have is that this supermarket is Waitrose, and I have been banned from entering any of their branches and using their online shop, as well as John Lewis.
However, I have a 1 yr contract with John Lewis Broadband for my wifi at my flat, with still a few more months to go.

Should I cancel the contract with John Lewis and pay a cancellation fee (pay an amount every month until contract ends), and get a new wifi contract from another company to avoid any potential risks of breaching the ban? I am not sure if they will be monitoring my use of the John Lewis Broadband, and how much the ban applies to. Even if I cancel, I will have to make a payment every month, so I will be interacting? with the company either way.

I have no idea of what I should do. Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Better to keep all posts about this incident on one thread

    Do not cancel your contract.
It is an entirely different matter

By the way those bans are a bit toothless.
If you are seen entering one of their stores all they can do is ask you to leave.
If you refuse they can use reasonable force to eject you.
If you are caught stealing you could be charged with burglary.
