  • Unfairly Banned from Tesco help

    Hi,

I’ve tried to go into the Tesco next to my workplace and been told I’ve been barred for shoplifting. I’ve never stolen from there or any other shop so this is particularly frustrating. I’ve not been shown any substantive evidence and I haven’t been offered a chance to clear my name.

As someone who has suffered from anxiety, being called a shoplifter in front of people is particularly distressing and embarrassing, especially when I know I haven’t done anything wrong.

I work near the shop and have been going there for over six years, almost daily, so to be called a thief out of nowhere has been awful for my mental health. I’m concerned about what would happen if my employers found out that I had been banned from a store for allegedly shoplifting.

What’s the best approach for me to take?

    Thank you for your help

You can ask for a copy of your all personal information that tescos hold on under GDPR / DPA 2018 Right of Access: https://ico.org.uk/your-data-matters...-of-your-data/

You can either access for the information over the phone, online, email, in real life or by letter. If you asked for a copy of your information at the store, they should pass on your request, however they may not realise their obligations to do so so it could be best to send a letter or email. You can ask for anything that is personal information, including any alleged CCTV recordings of yourself.

There are a few templates around online. Let us know how you get on.
