  • houseremovals - bmw issue

    So could you clarify please,

I purchased a 2002 BMW 330d on the 20th June for £950 through a tyre fitters in Crediton after seeing it advertised in one of the groups.

I was due to buy it before the 20th June but was messaged by his colleague to say that the belt and pulley needed replacing and I could either do it myself and they will give me and £100 off or they will do it.

I appreciate that its a cheap car or so i thought lol!

However around 10 days ago the car wouldn't start and i took it to a garage who identified it was no 3 fuel injector that needs replacing which cost £152 plus £90 labour charges and then 2 days ago huge amounts of smoke was bellowing from the car so i pulled over and the problem has been identified as needing a new turbo and they are not cheap but I can get it fitted for about £100.

I am quite happy to buy a secondhand turbo of which I can buy for around £150-£200 so with the gaskets that I need to buy for the turbo it works out around £280-£330, otherwise a new turbo would cost a small fortune to fit.

    Whats the next best steps

    Thanks

I am requesting this be moved to a separate thread before responding.
Posting on an existing thread causes confusion....... I just spent time trying to balance this against post 1!!!!!!

Was the car actually sold by the business (they aren't dealers) or an individual who worked there?

I would suggest your next move is to have the car repaired.

If it was sold by the business:
To reject the car you need to show it was unsatisfactory, not fit for purpose or misdescribed.
At that price, for a car that age IMO you would find it problematic to convince a judge that any normal person would consider the car unsatisfactory.
If it was misdescribed, you might have more of an argument to reject the vehicle, depending on how misdescribed.
You could try negotiating with the sellers for a discount.

If it was a private sale:
you have few rights unless it was misdescribed
