Hi as above I run a small business making (legiitmate) ID cards for staff. Occasionally we receive a request for student ID's, or ID's for orgganisations which potentially the purchaser clearly doesn't actually work for. So I am after some legal advice to cover us. I am aware of the Identity Documents Act 2010 which states owning equipment with the intention of creating fake identity documets is an offence (5 Apparatus designed or adapted for the making of false identity documents).
When we receive a request which we deem suspicious, current;ly we email the customer asking for evidence of official company or edu insituiton letterheaded paper to prove they are who they claim. We also state we reserve the right to reject any evidence if we deem it unsatisafactory. We also point out in that that possesion of illegal documentation is an offence.
So my question is, is this sufficient to legally cover us? We suppose the above is enough to deter anyone looking to obtain an id with "an improper intention". Perhaps I'm overthinking it but morally I certainly dont want supply something that will be used for anything nefarious, and certainly more importantly dont want to be prosecuted for supplying an id which is later used for criminal activity.
OR. Are we better off simply refusng this type of id request i.e student identity cards or company staff id's that seem suspicious?
