Without more context, worthwhile comment is not possible.
Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. I do not advise by private message.

Litigants in Person should download and read the Judiciary's handbook for litigants in person: https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/..._in_Person.pdf

      Hi Atticus

I left the company a negative review on Google. At the end, I added it's worth checking their accounts at companies house as their returns all state dormant company (they are not). This was the response.

Have you been invoiced in the company name and paid into company account?

In this situation the problem arises who you contracted with. The sole trader or the limited company. They are regarded as separate entities in court
If you need to make a claim for poor workmanship who would you name as defendant on the claim form?
To avoid personal responsibility, the trader would prefer you name his limited company.
You have checked Companies House and i suspect the company has very little assets if any

Their accounts are all submitted as dormant company. Yet the bank account and invoice are in company name.

I didn't think it possible to be sole trader and ltd co at same time for same 'business'?

You could phone the HMRC helpline and ask if the sole trader is registered with them. At the same time mention you were invoiced by the traders limited company although you believed when you agreed to his quote you were contracting with him personally

It may help if we could understand the reason the OP asks these questions.

In theory a tradesman can operate 2 parallel businesses, one as sole trader and another through a limited company.

The invoicing by and payment to the company are strong indicators that the OP dealt with the company.
