OK, first of all don’t panic. I think you need to start a new thread -I do not know how to move this but maybe someone else can Kati ?
Someone will help – just bear with us!

Re: Seter - Shoplifting Debenhams

the letter you signed was likely a letter to do with a company called RLP, retail loss prevention. They invoice people on behalf of the store for the cost of dealing with the shoplifting incident - usually around £80 - £140. Sometimes they take a fair while to send the invoice through. There is no liability on you to pay this - have a read through some threads and posts in this forum http://legalbeagles.info/forums/foru...oss-Prevention - lots of people have posted up copies of letters they have received and what they have done with them ( most of them have ignored them entirely).

Hi seter ... to LB. I've moved your posts to a new thread for you

PAWS is right about not panicking, there are lots of people on here who can help
I'll tag des8 (he's great at offering advice in these situations) but I do think that you should just ignore any letters you get from companies such as RLP!

Re: Seter - Shoplifting Debenhams

Hi and welcome.

What was the value of the goods involved?
Were the goods recovered in a saleable condition?
Did the police issue you with a Community Resolution Order?

As already mentioned you will receive a letter from a company called Retail Loss Prevention.
This will explain in great detail how your failed attempt to remove goods has cost Debenhams a lot of money.
It is designed to scare you into paying them a sum of money.
You do not actually owe Debenhams anything as they lost nothing, and they would need to show their additional costs were a direct result of your actions (ie they can't claim their fixed costs like security staff time)

Just ignore the letter.
Do not be tempted to reply to it, as that only makes them think you are worried and they redouble their efforts to part you from your money.
As it is, they will send a series of threatening letters, which can all be ignored.
Do not however ignore any GENUINE court papers.
It is most unlikely these will ever materialise, as it costs more to go to court than Debenhams could ever recover, and the last time RLP tried court they lost heavily.(here's a link:http://www.legalbeagles.info/forums/...h-and-the-lies)

Can you post up a copy of the form you signed?
First remove all identifying details.

It depends exactly what (if anything) you have received from the police as to whether or not you need to declare it, and whether or not it is taken into account.

Re: Seter - Shoplifting Debenhams

Ok you do not have a copy.
It will be regarded as very low level, but recorded.
It is impossible to say how the assessor will apply the gudance as the decision depends on the totality of your application.

When applying (https://www.gov.uk/government/upload...AN_01-2016.pdf)
3.5 – 3.6 You must give details of any cautions (simple or conditional), warnings orreprimands you have received in the UK or any other country. Cautions, warningsand reprimands are out of court disposals that are recorded on a person’s criminalrecord and are taken in to account when assessing a person’s character.

Thi will be assessed as per "Annex D: the good character requirement" which can be found here at sec3: https://www.gov.uk/government/upload...nnex_D_v02.pdf
and the Table at 2.1.

It might be worth delaying your application for three years to make sure.

When you complete that application, I would advise against concealing anything.

From https://www.gov.uk/government/upload..._June_2016.pdf
"9. GOOD CHARACTER ........................ Checks will be carried out to ensure that the information you give iscorrect.
