Do you or anyone else on here have experience of negotiating discounts? Obviously want to negotiate as hard as possible but would like some indication of how hard if anyone knows.

Yes,

It has to be done very carefully and under your terms, much depends on how old the debt is
and what the debt owner believes its prospects are for collecting the full amount.

current debt £15692.50
they have just offered 25% discount,
on the 5/1/15 they offered a 30% discount which would have equated to £10984.75
on the 9/10/14 when the debt was £17406.45 they offered a discount of £4351.61 which was a 25% discount

so we already know they will accept 30%, I suspect that is a fraction of what they will actually accept, we have not been able to pay against the original CCJ and they know that so I guess its in their interest to collect as much as they can over what they paid for it and make a profit.

MC are acting for Marlin but the debt has been chased by Mackenzie hall, westcot, moorcroft, blair oliver and scott ltd, and albion thats 6 in total so its been chased by a lot of DCs

Mackenzie hall offered a reduced settlement of £11640.53 against debt of £14550.66 on the 28/3/13

We received a letter from Halifax/BOS on the 3/12/13 saying they had assigned all rights title and interest to Marlin and the value was £14586.39 so based on the mackenzie hall offer is it safe to assume the debt was sold to Marlin for less than £11640.53.

Not sure how to proceed but I am aware that we need to be sure that what ever settlement is agreed is final and removes the debt from the credit file.

In summary I need help with the content of any letter and guidance on what value to negotiate.

With debt being subject to a CCJ it is a matter of public record that the judgement was made, one has 28 days from the judgement date to pay in full then no CCJ is registered.
The point is this public record cannot be expunged at this late date, it will however be removed after 6 years.
You can " ask" the claimant to have the judgement noted as satisfied, if the settlement is lower than the amount
of the judgement order it may only be marked partially satisfied.
BTW was the CCJ in the name of HBOS?
