  • Taylor Vinters - must refund customers excessive charges

Its an old one, I just thought it was good that the SRA are doing their job.

12 January 2009: specific outcome agreed

    Taylor Vinters
    Merlin Place
    Milton Road
    Cambridge
    CB4 0DP

On 11 February 2008, the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) commenced an investigation of Taylor Vinters. As a result of this investigation, a report was prepared by the investigating officer; this report highlighted the following:

    i. That between May 2005 and February 2008, the Relevant Partners of the Firm had charged clients of the Firm £29.38 per Telegraphic Transfer.

ii. The Telegraphic Transfer referred to above was shown on correspondence sent to clients as a disbursement.

iii. The actual cost to the Firm for carrying out the Telegraphic Transfer was £12.50.

iv. Therefore, between May 2005 and February 2008, the Firm made a secret profit from their clients of £33,295.00.

    i. Within two months of the date of this Agreement, provide evidence to the SRA to show that extensive efforts have been made to trace clients who were billed for telegraphic transfer fees at a rate of £29.38 each when the actual cost to the firm was £12.50 and that those clients who have been traced have been refunded all amounts due to them together with interest on the sums owed at a rate of 5% per annum or part thereof.
