  • British gas help please ! £3000 !

I never signed any contract with British Gas. My name was used without my approval. Once I opened door for British Gas employee he wants to write down the meter readings in the house. I find out about ,,my" outstanding balance (more than £3000!!!!) on the begging of December 2015. I only became aware of this when I checked my credit file recently. If I wouldn't open account with Experian Credit Expert I might never find out about this! I'm devastated.

I already called Costumer Service. I spent around 1h or even more* on the phone. I spoke with few departments. They dont have my new adress, email, phone number or even date of birth, im not going to mention bank details completely nothing just name and misspelled surname. So they can't even contact me after I left this house Soultion I heard was : I have to pay this bill. Why I should be charged for all the people leaving in house? It was shared house ( 9ppl ) and I just rented room there. I was leaving there since May 2013.

I believe, though others will have to verify, that utility companies cannot back date bills if they have failed to bill previously. This has been used before to get rid of BG bills

Its called back-billing code of practice, essentially companies like british gas cannot bill a customer dating more than 12 months if it was the supplier's fault or did not send the bill.
you can find more information about it here https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/sites/defau...let-2012_0.pdf

There is no use speaking to them on the phone, they will keep saying you owe the money. You will need to follow the complaints procedure - have you paid any gas bills to British Gas since you lived there? any letters in your name been sent to the address? Can they confirm the account number/sort code of which might be set up on the account and verify if that is your card?

Were the bills meant to be inclusive of the rent? It is hard to believe that unless it was agreed you didn't think you'd have to pay bills? If they have failed to take a meter reading and then bill you for it then they wont be able to claim that back as part of the back-billing principles.
If you have a question about the voluntary termination process, please read this guide first, as it should have all the answers you need. Please do not hijack another person's thread as I will not respond to you

Personally I never paid any bills in that adress. British Gas employee came on 06.2013. I saw only one letter with my misspelled surname after that but I thought is some gas/energy offer like a lots of company sent to houses. This bill is for period 06.2013-05.2015. Like I said I move out on the begging on 2015. They dont have any my details included card just my name. I didn't have contract in that house. They should stop supply energy&gas if bills werent paid. How they can do something like this ? Landlord/Owner should be responsible not me! Is not £300 is more than £3000 that's a lot of money. I have contact Citizen Adviser. They said I should write a complaint to British Gas. The link u sent is not working so I can't check it.
