  • No loading sign, no yellow lines

    Hi,

I'm new to this site and would ask a quick question. Unloading where there was a no loading sign but didn't see it however, there were no yellow lines which would have altered me to the restriction. Is this legal.

    Thanks for any assistance given

    Hi and welcome
No loading signs must be accompanied by kerb markings reflecting the restriction. The double mark for "at any time", the single mark for other restrictions as shown on the relevant sign.
You would also expect yellow lines down road as otherwise peeps could stop there for reasons other than loading!

Many thanks for the reply Des. I have already submitted a challenge to the adjudicator based on this but wasn't sure. I couldn't find the actual legislation so couldn't quote it. It's a bizarre situation. The location was Market Street, Bishops Stortford or so it was written on the ticket but all of the local business, including two banks, have their website addresses as Market Square. Even Royal Mail has Market Square for all of them, however, the council have provided ordnance survey maps, their consolidation order map and Hertfordshire County Council Map which show Market Street. Very confusing situation. Hopefully the TPT see it the same way.

Thanks again for responding. I'll let you know the outcome.

It's not unusual for streets to have "official" names, but to be known locally by something else.
I live on a hill called "Rhiw y Rofft" but known locally as "Punishment Hill" and there is a road in Thame that was known locally as "Black Horse Lane" but was really "Rooks Lane"
If the definitive maps show "Street" so be it.
Fifty odd years ago I was at school near Stortford (just outside Puckeridge) so just googled it and note the street doesn't even seem to have a name plate up!

Thanks des. Looks like i'll have to rely on the lack of double yellows and kerb lines as my defence. Funny that even the banks and Royal Mail had the wrong address.

Many Thanks for all the help. I'll let you know the outcome.
