  • NatWest (latterly taken over by Lloyds). Should I trust them?

    Hi,

I've been asked by a friend (whose first language is not English & does not read or write English) to help claim back PPI they have been paying on a credit card with Virgin MBNA.

That aside, it's reminded me of a couple of incidents I have had myself, with NatWest & Lloyds.

Lloyds, in my opinion, seem to be pretty ruthless. I had to claim back ridiculous overdraft charges they had been levying to a bank account I had with them and they fought me every step of the way. It eventually took a couple of years to receive any settlement & I settled for less than was due because they, quite frankly, wore me down.

Additionally, I had a mortgage with NatWest which I sold the house and paid off after they had been taken over by Lloyds. I found they had charged me a whopping £350 paperwork fee over and above standard fees when I took out the mortgage and I discovered I could claim that back. Although I addressed everything to Natwest (because of my experience with Lloyds), it was all naturally handled through the Lloyds offices and I had to fight for that, too, as they were blatantly refusing to pay out. They even stated they agreed it was an overcharge but were refusing to pay it back, nonetheless. Again, I settled (for £250 instead of the £350).

I have no idea if I paid any PPI on the mortgage so wrote to NatWest (now RBS) and asked. They replied that they had never charged PPI on ANY of their mortgages with ANYONE so, "no" they hadn't charged PPI and I could therefore not claim any back.

Is it possible they misinformed me or should I take it as read that, if they say they never charged me PPI, they didn't?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Just noticed my own error that NatWest was taken over by RBS - not Lloyds. Sorry.
