They aren't being ripped off - well despite the 1539% PA interest shes paying. These loans are meant as interim loans while you wait for a payment in so are usually only for a couple of weeks where at which point it only costs you £25 per £100 you borrow. Its just a simple way of borrowing money. BUT if you don't pay it back and extend it to the next month they stack up ridiculously and get impossible to get out of.

From what Jas has told me and I have looked up the charges on her accounts are bonafide finance charges however ridiculous the rate of interest.

Maybe it's worth a little bit of haggling with them when Jas in actually in a position to pay them off !!!

              Wooohooo !! Halleluah !!!

Alot has happened this morning LOL

I took notice of Ames reminder this morning to call Ronan for one last time to see if there was anymore news regarding my o/hs hardship claim.. I got thru to his answer phone and left a message. But then. I decided to ring another number and got thru to a lady who said she would put me thru to Ronan direct as I knew he wouldn't get back to me.

I finally got to speak to him and told him that we had received another letter from our Housing Association regarding our rent arrears etc... He asked me to fax the letter to him and he will get back to me as soon as possible.

I don't have a fax machine at home.. so had to go to the library..

I got back from the library.. and just as I set my foot thru the door.. Ronan rang me back with an offer of 65% the claim..£6,405.. (by cheque into bank account)

I cant believe it !!! this will definatley help us to get back on our feet and sort ourselves out..

              Hi All !

I spent nearly the whole of yesterday cleaning my house ! (dusting, polishing etc...)as I had been neglecting it for the last couple of weeks lol

Ive just read back on my above post..and had time to sit down and digest everything and I have realized that we got this offer of nearly the whole of my o/hs claim !

I have worked this out properly on my trusty calculator LOL.....

The total of charges was £5,482 plus simple daily interest at 8% APR of £1,373.25 = £6,855.25. (grand total of claim).. the offer is for £6,405.91 so in fact, it wasn't 65% offer of claim !, it was roughly 94% !

              This must be a first???!!

Have also received a letter from Abbey yesterday morning confirming the offer..... dated 19th Sept 08

              Dear Mr ****

We refer to the previous correspondence in this matter and the telephone conversation with Ronan Coyle today.

Having examined your case of financial hardship both sympathetically and positively Abbey National PLC entered into negotiations to settle your bank charges claims.

We now write to confirm the agreed terms of settlement.

As discussed, Abbey agrees to make payment to you in the sum of £6,405 in settlement of your claim without admission of any liability and does not prejudice your rights under the Financial Services Authority Waiver dated 27th July 2008 (which may vary from time to time).

Abbey is raising a cheque for the above said sum that will be paid into your account.

              Yours faithfully

              Abbey

                  Hi Ame :tinysmile_grin_t:

The total claim with CI is £14,913.67.. so I guess its not 65% of this.. x

                        Hiya BF

When you spoke to Ronan did he not say how they were calculating the sum, not that it matters as you have a decent payout and you should be able to try and clear some of your debts and have a little something over for yourselves for a treat.

                          Hi Tutts x

When I spoke to him on the phone he said that Abbey were currently settling claims on a 65% basis (with simple 8%, not CI). Then he just quoted the above figure and asked if I would be happy to accept it.. I didn't realize at that time he was offering more than 65%.. it only occurred to me when I had properly looked at the total of claim. I was just gobsmacked that he was ringing me back and making an offer in the first place, he promised on other occasions he would ring me back.. but never did.

I had a lot of negative thoughts the last couple of weeks thinking why it took so long for them to confirm hardship.. but I guess all that ringing up paid off in the end (and a huge phone bill LOL ). TBH, I nearly gave up ringing him on Friday..and was all ready to draft up letters to the fsa/fos. It was all because of you, Outspoken, Ame and Buds and others support and the extra push to call him again, so its many thanxs to you all we got an offer in the end,(and the letter regarding rent arrears lol)
