  • Newlyn plc and Rotherham Council

    Hi,
Its kind of a long story. Me and my partner moved in together in january 2014. And because I was unemployed, he paid all the bills. But to my surprise we have received a letter from The court stating that we have been taken to court by Rotherham Mbc for non payments of council tax. The amount was £80 per month. A week later we got a letter from newlyn saying that they will visit the property and remove goods as the outstanding amount was £1037. They sent another letter saying that the removal was in place in next 24hours. After that it all went quet and in april we got a letter from RMBC that new council tax bill is £80 per month plus what ever was previously owed. In july we split up and he moved out of the house, so I informed council that we were no longer together and they said that ill get a new bill. In september I received a letter from newlyn saying that the amount owed is now £2452.80. The debt is in both of our names and I was wondering if I should contact them and tell them that we are no longer together so they could split the debt. I dont want to contact that horrible place as I know they will force me to pay the full amount. Any advice?
