New here so bare with me.
A week ago my partner was home decorating when a bailiff from marston group knocked on looking for him, he lied and said he wasn't him but this was a care of address, (he panicked). he found out that they had been chasing him for unpaid court fines from 2006, but they haven't be able to get hold of him because he moved around a lot. he started paying these fines but stopped and just forgot about them. He has lived with me for 6 months now and we haven't heard anything till this knock on the door. my other half was so embarrassed and didn't tell me till Thursday because he didn't want me to worry because I'm pregnant, he told me the day he found out what the money owed was for.
So we spent the day on the phone to Marston group trying to set up a payment plan which we thought we could do but they said it's gone past that stage now and we'll have to see the bailiff when he comes back which should be tomorrow. We couldn't get hold of the bailiff that called even though we tried all thursday and friday. so we phoned national debt line asking for advise, they told us that we could set up a payment plan and that it sounds like they just want to add on more money to the amount, they also said to try and call the courts and ask them to take the case away from the bailiff so we could pay them. We called the court who said they can't unless the bailiff cannot collect, and we phoned marston group again to say that we have been told we could set up a payment plan and they said no we can't.
the national debt line also told us that they can't take anything from the house because my partner doesn't own anything in it (neither do I), we rent the house from my dad and it is still full of all his stuff we own nothing but our clothes and my sons toys. is this true? I've been looking on other sites and all i am reading is horror stories about marston group and i am terrified. I've never had dealing with anything like this before and i'm loosing sleep over it, i've been told not to open the door to them and film them if i do talk to them. All we want to do i set up a payment plan and are even willing to make payments of £182 a month for 3 months just to get it paid off (we could afford this if we made a few sacrifices) but from what i'm hearing these guys won't have any of it and always want payment in full. we just need some advise that will work. and any help will be greatly received
