It takes a lot of courage to admit you are wrong and coming from a local authority that is a change of attitude from the previous attitude of not admitting to mistakes or trying to put matters right. It does make me wonder if local authorities have finally realised that putting their hands up to making mistakes and putting it right before things escalate into litigation is the best policy to pursue, rather than trying to tough it out.

Now would not that just be wonderful if it was true, from what we have learned of current city council practises they play the odds, majority of the public do not question and just do as the council tell them, add in the defeats in court and misappropriation of funds charges an MP banging on the doors, more likely the truth.

I am currently working on my cynicism and can see some good left in the world..

The recent revelations involving SERCO and G4S are only the tip of a very large iceberg. Revelations involving ATOS came out only a week or so ago. Who will be next? Capita? Liberata, maybe? I am of the opinion that there will be more revelations involving large commercial concerns, holding government contracts, including local government contracts, which point towards the taxpayer being fleeced wholesale. Things like this only stay hidden for a certain amount of time before the reality starts to come to light. I saw it happen a number of times when I was a CID officer.

More likely to do with the release of the latest guidelines to LA's which goes much further than it ever has before. The one amendment to the guidelines could open the gates for a flood of claims against the LA's which could cost them very dearly indeed, so they need to be more cautious.

It's great to see them holding their hands up though - if more did that, the public would be more understanding of most things.

Another very surprising visit today, totally out of the blue, I need to set the scene, 4 or 5 years ago Jules (half caste ) published a paper in the Guardian somewhat slating the National Front, they attacked the house and her car setting fire to them both, police and MP were involved in securing the house, we have incendiary catcher in the mail box, fancy lights and camera recording system, big flameproof fences and a monster wall, it eventually all died down after a few very powerfull local businessmen intervened (yes gangsters) now no one from Liverpool Mutual Homes (that financed it) has ever asked anything about the system, does it still work, are you ok kind of stuff, 2 men turned up today from LMH asking is everything ok, it does seem a bit of a coincidence after yesterday..

Wonder if they made Marstons an offer they couldn't refuse? But seriously, if the council take their responsibilities seriously and were more in control of their enforcement agents the world would be a better place.

It is quite likely your home and your OH and, possibly, yourself, are flagged on police systems as Highly Vulnerable, given what has happened in the past. I do know that where persons and property are flagged as such, the police will share intelligence with other agencies to ensure such persons and property are kept as safe as is humanly possible. This may explain the visits you have had from LCC and LMH.

When we first became serious Jules informed me that a very indepth check would have to be made on my past and if there was anything lurking there i best tell her now, i smiled and said there is nothing, i then added 'does it include my time living in Ireland' she dived in feet first asking what had i done there, for 2 days she quizzed me, finally coming to the conclusion that i had, now there are many crimes i could have committed, of all of them she burst out with 'YOU SHOT SOMEONE' i laughed for days.
The checks were for her previous employment working with Criminal Justice..still makes me smile

I did psychology as part of my police training. Criminal Psychology is a fascinating area of Human Psychology and can, at times, be a little scary.

Very true, Jules was at the sharp end of a few police ops, some beyond the comprehension of the general public, she was also used many time to provide profiles and interview questions.
we just now need to stop her using the phrases 'ar eh' and 'lolly ice'
