    Hi Skally

    I just spoke to the ICO press team. The guy I spoke to agreed that this was a very serious case and was going to investigate straightaway why it hadn't been 'jumped on'.

    I explained that we were following the case closely on LB and would like to see the ICO respond proactively to this breach. He agreed that would be the best response.

    They should hopefully contact you quickly now. I need your real name and contact details because the ICO are calling me back too, so send me a PM and we can take it from there.

      With respect, Celestine, I'm cautious about giving my real contact details to anyone I don't know. I hope you understand that it's nothing personal, and I really appreciate your guidance and involvement in this whole thing.

      That said, I DID get a call back on Friday afternoon! After a few minutes of apology for their delay getting back to me (something to do with your call, Celestine?!!), I was asked about the info I had found, specifically if I'd disclosed any details to anyone. Apart from the three family members I was with when I found the letters, I said I'd pm-ed one person with the name of the company on the letterhead & told them about this forum, explaining that I'd only asked general advice about what to do without disclosing specific details..
      They asked me to e-mail them the link (which I have) & thanked me for (amongst other things) not phoning the press first, and said someone will phone me on Wednesday to arrange picking up the letters!

      Again, thank you ALL for your help. I really didn't know where to turn at first, so a hat-tip to Google for leading me to your forum!

        This is a terrible lapse on someones part.
        Can you say who is collecting the letters, is it the ICO or the people that lost them.

            Unfortunately the ICO is not a prosecuting agency. They may suspend or cancel the offender's licence depending on the seriousness that they view this incident. But, sadly, there is no SWAT team.

            Once the facts are established you could further our case against the bailiffs by publicising this matter. Do not deal with bailiffs because they make identity fraud easy! What a great headline.

              LOL, Yes ICO SWAT, with helicopters and M16s. That would be the day.

              I think the ICO do prosecute, but not in cases like this , unless they have no option.

              From reading the post it sounds like the ICO have just recommended that Skally return the items to the Bailiff.

              So sadly that will be the end of that. Par for the course i suppose.

                  That would be excellent if it happens, i have been down this road before with the ICO, still it would be nice to be wrong.

                    Only if Skally wishes to share the outcome of the case. But it's nice to know that we can influence the dynamic positively.

                        I would have thought it won't go through the press office until they have fully investigated and then drawn a conclusion to their findings....they will likely blow their trumpet when successful.

                          Yes i suppose so, then the resultant findings would be in the public domain.

                          Which is how it should be, if you think about it the injured parties are the people whose details are on those receipts and by extrapolation the general public.

                          Disclosure should not be a matter for the person who reported the offense.

                            Sorry for my delay in updating you all (pesky real life commitments!), but I want to reassure you that the paperwork IS in the hands of the ICO and not the bailiff or the company he works for.

                            And I think the ICO SWAT team should exist!!

                                Or did they say they would keep you informed of any case they may bring.
