Employee Contract

Good evening. I have a question which relates to employee contract.

I have had the same contract for almost 5 years and I have addressed an issue which I have raised. Can your employer make changes without amending the contract by handing out those changes on a piece of paper?

I would appreciate if anyone could answer ASAP.
