Twelve weeks ago I bought a 2007 Land Rover Discovery from a car dealer, trading in my own vehicle for £3000 towards purchase price the rest paying in cash. The vehicle had been serviced prior to purchase (receipted) and after purchase I had brakes, timing belts done at a Land Rover independent dealer.
Last week towing our new caravan the Land Rover exploded into flame and was burnt out, we managed to break the windows to get the kids out and put out the bulk of the fire affecting the interior of the vehicle then beat a retreat until the fire brigade arrived.
I now discover that there is a major recall for the vehicle from 2009 that called for the affected part that caused the fire to be replaced by Land Rover due to risk of fire.
Do I have any recourse against the dealer ? (the vehicle is still under warranty). I am insured fully comp with protected NCD but fear they will just give me minimal price for the vehicle, not that I care but it's still the principle.
More importantly my kids are safe.
Any help appreciated.
