  • Threatening letters from Capquest

I could honestly do with some sound advice as I have Capquest on my case for an account that I had 15 years ago. I used to have an HBOS bank account but got into a mess and moved etc. I paid off all my debts that I knew of, years ago - and thought that everything was ok.

I have recently been getting calls from Capquest and have also received letters stating that I owe them over £1000 and if I don't contact them, they will pass it over to their collection arm. I was concerned, so decided to run a credit report and saw that this bank account was showing as active up until last year! It was then 'settled' - by Capquest I presume. I've heard about things becoming Statute Barred, but am worried that this won't apply if the account has only just been settled.

I also saw two other accounts showing as 'settled'. Both of these accounts were nothing to do with me but were in my name. These are now on my credit report and will affect my chances of getting a new mortgage deal. Neither of these organisations have ever contacted me to question anything - but have passed the debts on, by the look of things.

I have raised a dispute on my credit report, so am now awaiting contact from these two banks.

I'm trying to live life correctly and look after my family but just feel that things like this make everything so hard.

Any advice would be warmly received as it's really worrying me.
