  • Ex Partner stolen car on finance

Sorry for the length, but I really need some help.

I was dating a guy and during that time he said he had got me a car and we need to go and collect it. Arrived at Mercedes, and saw he had organised TWO cars to be financed in my name one for each of us. He said he would pay the finance on both and not to worry. Silly mistake of trusting him. I paid 2k deposit for mine and signed the papers.

6 months later he stopped paying for both vehicles and disappeared. No phone calls nothing. I called Mercedes and took on payments of my car and continued to chase him to payment. He also obtained a ton of PCN tickets where he has just parked anywhere and made illegal turns, driven in bus lanes the works! The finance company writing to me asking for their vehicle back and have send bailiffs for the car. I finally managed to speak to him a few weeks ago after sending begging text messages and he said that the car in a garage somewhere getting fixed and he doesnt know where. Basically he is not giving back the car.

I called the police and they have said it is a civil matter.

I have written to Mercedes asking for settlement figures and it turns out the £2k deposit I paid was put against his car, and only £126 on mine. I now owe £4k on mine to give back the car. I also was told that if they do not get back his vehicle I will be responsible for the £30k remaining on his.

What can I do? I dont have that money. How do I sort this issue without going to court or loosing my house?
