  • Leasehold Housing and Management Companies

I have been doing a lot of searching over the internet to try and find similar people in the same boat as me. Recently I have discovered that new housing sites built on a leasehold basis have no protection regarding overcharging of maintenance fees. Leasehold Houses (not flats) are not covered by the Leasehold and Commonhold Reform Act 2002, in that you cannot form a committee and vote to replace the company (as long as you have 50% of the flats in agreeement) or create your own management company in a Right to Manage. (Please contact the Leasehold Advisory Service to get help if you do live in a flat because this is possible to do but only if in a flat block).

Other people who live in houses and are struggling with overcharging and excessive admin fees you have only one option to you which is to go to a tribunal to challenge the charges which can cost up to £600 and even then you cannot replace the company, only reduce the charges. This seems to me very unfair and exploiting the general public. So i have started a petition to try and get the government to extend the existing 2002 Act to Leasehold Housing. Please read and sign the petition below as with enough noise perhaps instead of fighting these management companies we can simply fire them and put an end to the issues!

    Many thanks for your support
