One wet afternoon recently, I Googled myself - nothing interesting, I live a boring life! With nothing better to do, I Googled my daughter, and found Rocketreach.
The information this firm has on my daughter horrified her. She is on a couple of social media websites as well as Linkedin but they all need passwords to access and apparently some privacy settings. Rocketreach is freely available to all. Not only does it have significant information about my daughter but links to various - apparently quite important - people connected with the firm she works for. This is AI at its' worst, or best (depending on your opinion).
What makes my daughter so distressed is that several years ago she was assaulted by her then fiance and has spent the years since determined to prevent him finding her. It now seems that Rocketreach makes it easy for anyone to find absolutely anyone else who has a work history.
So this post is by way of a warning and to ask if we have no right to privacy in this country?
AI might be incredibly clever but its potential for misuse is also frightening.
