  • DVLA fine

Hi, I moved home due a marriage separation and as such I missed the car tax renewal date. Any reminder was not forwarded, even though I had mail forwarding. After 5 months my Daughters car in my name was clamped due to not being taxed. Her car is Zero rated, the £80 was paid. Another fine then arrived £30 for driving the car on the road without tax. Fine paid

I also have a zero rated car so no road tax payable. Once I updated the DVLA with my new address and ticked the box to tax my zero rated car I received an £80 fine for late renewal
I am now waiting for the further £30 fine for driving my car.

Both cars had and have up to date MOTs, Both cars are Zero rated for Car tax yet I find myself paying £220 in fines for not ticking a box on a website.

The question is do I have any grounds to defend against these fines (taxes) having moved home and separated selling the matrimonial home and then not remembering to go online and update the DVLA box ticking form?
