Hi, im hoping someone can help with this.
My partner has in the last couple of weeks started being contacted by Lowell on behalf of British gas for a debt from 2013, in the region of £600.
She left the property in question September 2013 and last made a payment 6 September 2013, but for one reason or another has not paid since nor been contacted.
She's certain she told them she was moving out when she did, though they are claiming supply ended December 2013 (another ~£200 of electricity (we suspected the new tenants were growing cannabis previously). They are also trying to charge for two debt visits April 2014 at £54 and £52, long after supply ended.
Would this debt be statute barred from the last payment/acknowledgement ie 6th September 2013? Lowell are saying it defaulted August 2014.
If it's not statute barred, is she liable for someone else's supply? In the new property she took dual fuel with a different provider but we have no record of the phone call she made end of tenancy (as it was 6 years ago).
