Hi everyone I’m new to all of this but wanting help.
My husband had his house reprocessed 10 years ago. It was in joint names with his then wife.
Since then he has been paying back a small but affordable amount every month to a company called DLC. He has never missed a payment or been late paying. He’s just received a letter saying another company has taken over the account. How the letter reads that they are chasing him for the whole of the amount £48,000. He is self employed and they are seeking to get this paid as soon as possible. They are contacting us in 5 months time for a review. Between us we only just get by. I’ve asked in the past if they will write the debt off as it was causing him a lot of stress but they wouldn’t.
What can we do? Have they got the rights to chase him for all of the debt or how can we find out if his ex is paying? Can they demand more money? It’s took all this time to get him a decent credit rating and don’t won’t to damage that.
