Hi
Santander has applied overdraft charges to my account. I cleared those and then the next month was billed for the last months and it snowballed charges occurring charges. I rang them and asked as a goodwill gesture could they waive these charges as I was not aware of them occurring as this account is not trading. It’s a current account and not used at present. They said that they could only apply £95 towards the balance which is £379 at present. I asked if I could dispute the charges through a complaints procedure to see if I could attain a better settlement and they said that I could and that they would get someone to ring me. I wasn’t available when they did and they in turn sent an email stating that they could close the account reducing it to zero as s goodwill gesture or leave it open and apply a £95 refund towards it and I pay off the rest.
The lady in their customer services had advised me that my account would be put on hold not to occurr anymore charges until the complaint was dealt with. But this never materialised. Also she told me that this would not affect my credit file and that Santander would advise if it did I would get a formal warning. Subsequently it has already been applied to my credit file that there has been overdraft charges not paid and this as you know will have a deterimental affect on future borrowings that my company may have in the future.
I would like to know where I stand regarding the matter and what I can do immediately to rectify it .
They are at present going to check their phone calls which they monitor to see whom I was speaking to and whether she indeed give me the correct information on the overdraft not affecting my credit file.
I have asked them to take off this on my file as I was previously speaking to Experian and they said it’s up to the lenders desgression to do this and I would need to ask them to remove this.
I would be so grateful for you advice on this matter and the steps I need to apply to rectify it
Thank you
Yours faithfully
