  • Issue with Barclays Bank / Urgent action required

    Dear Team,

Please can someone give me some advice regarding an issue over my overdraft with Barclays, and their subsequent lack of communication in dealing with the matter, as follows:

    1. I have during 2007-2009 and overdraft of £8,500 wit the bank.
    2. In 2009 I became made redundant, but had reduced the overdraft to £2,500
    3. Between 2009-2012, I had a £50 per month arrangement fee to clear the balance. their interest rate was 18% flat, APR around 35%
    4. Subsequently the debt never went down, and in March 2013 I contacted the bank.
    5. They after many conversions, would not place the funds onto a loan nor reduce the interest rate and fired me over the the Financial Ombudsman.
    6. Whilst this took place interest payments were placed on hold and the account, which was not used, was suspended.
    7. In April 2014 the FO said that the bank were being fair, although they had not acted on a certain point, and offered £150 compensation.
    8. This was refused as derisory, and I contacted the bank to try and sort the matter, they would not play ball.
    9. Between May 2014 - August 2017, I made contact with the bank to settle the matter, which was futile, nor did they chase me for the money.
10.I then received a termination notice from them in Dec.2017, and I went directly to see the bank manager at the branch. Whilst sympathetic to my situation, he contacted the complaint team who fired me back off to the FO, who have looked at the matter again.
    11. The only outcome is that they will backdate any data on my credit file, but still need me to contact them regarding the balance.
    12. The information provided by them to the FO, does not have any record of the many conversations I have had to try to resolve the matter.
13.The FO say they can only work with the information, which is in fact incorrect.
    14. It seems barclays don't want to take ownership of the fact they have failed to contact me within the last 3.5 years to resolve the debt issue.

I feel I have been taken well and truly to the cleaners here by a bank, which is showing no sign of treating the customer fairly and hiding behind the FO regulations.
Please can any body give me some advice, as to what the option I have available to me, over a debt I have been trying to settle for the last 6 years.

    Kind Regards,
    Andy Thomas
