Re: EU: - IN or OUT ?? and WHY ??

The thing about the Ehic card is that is provides for state provision however what is happening in Spain is that people are being see privately . If they are taken to hospital they are taken to a private one as opposed to a state one.

It is not just happening to old people and I am not sure that playing the game of that wouldn't happen here is really not helpful
Well that makes the EHIC card almost useless unless it's stated when you become ill or have an accident you can not pay.
How would that happen here? we don't have many private hospitals (YET) that anyone would be rushed to in an emergency.

Common sense at the last election?

Are you having a laugh , look what is happening around you, the increase in homelessness is just one example

You may be common but i have the sense :taunt:

What it shows, IMHO is that sadly people are inherently selfish and really do only care about themselves

My point was that jingoism really does not help anyone.

Or do we believe that the British are the master race and we should inflict our standards on the rest of the world?

Exactly right and sadly because we have been for want of a better word 'formed' that way.
From the lowest of the low who harm and steal to get what they want, to the top of the tree who are led by sheer greed.
We are being made to put ourselves first because if we didn't the handful that do care would be overwhelmed.

Or do we believe that the British are the master race and we should inflict our standards on the rest of the world?
Not at all I think Britain has lots of faults, I was trying to make a small example of how we are not at all equal in the EU, never will be.
If it were as good a club to be in as the INS keep spouting how can half be unable to pay their debts and the other half are affluent?

Re: EU: - IN or OUT ?? and WHY ??

Most of the rest of the EU speaks English......

they are tolerating our "special requirements"

they openly want us to stay in

there are more Brits abroad than any other EU country

My guess is our future depends on being in & that is all it is, just a informed guess, we can allays leave if necessary.

A connected " story " in the news about an elderly South African woman who lives on her pension, and is supported by a relative with who she lives is threatened with deportation, while a family of alleged refugees (8 children) is said to be " humiliated " as they have been moved from a £2 million to on worth only £1.3 million they have made no contribution of any sort in the UK.
As one commentator said the SA lady is just too white for getting help here.

The rather over complicated EU biased in #post 38 I think shows how much some have been brain washed and now believe being in the EU is the only way the UK can survive,

I believe it is the exact opposite the EU will destroy our heritage and our identity as a Sovereign Nation. My guess is that the " prominent " politicians push for the UK to stay in the EU are really just doing so in the hope of landing some over paid ( unelected) job with a huge pension as Kinochio and his wife did.
I think is the problem, Joe public cannot tell the difference between EU law and ECHR (Convention)/ human rights , which are totally independent of each other. So I'll hazard a guess and say those voting to leave the EU (referendum) will do so by confusing the EU with ECHR. Noah has it right in that human rights will exist even if the UK were to come out of the European Union. If Parliament were to repeal the Human Rights Act which permits claims in UK courts human rights' case law (common law) would still be authorative. So David Cameron's apparent Bill of Rights will be a water down version of the Human Rights' Act 1998 (assuming it were repealed), but human rights' common law would not just disappear (as there would be no comparator cases). EU largely means trade relationships between EU member state (EU countries): freedom of movement for people; businesses; banks etc based on EU Treaty law. Whereas the distinction is that ECHR relates to individual's rights against the state, ie public authority (or government). There is therefore a massive difference.

Fact: EU costs the UK Government £155 million a day or 20 billion approx. each year, or putting it another way, 2% of its entire 1 trillion (1000 billion) economy. Not confirmed: membership of the EU is said to make a 40% increase to the UK's economy. This is probably grossly exaggerated at best or the stats have been misrepresented. It seems more likely to be 40% increase to business operations, which is altogether obviously very different. Nevertheless on these figures: 1 Trillion (UK's economy value) - 400 billion (ie 40%) = 600 billion (60%). If this were right, it means less money for the government to run the country including pensions and support for disabled people. This is why it was probably better financially for Scotland to not go independent from the UK as its economy would likely be affected tremendously for several years until it's economy balanced out.

£155m? That's gone up a bit from the £55m you quoted yesterday, which itself was overstated by £28m.

IMHO and many more it, should not even be an issue
Someone comes here to earn a better living than he can in his homeland, no problem with that whatsoever. Keeping his kids out of our funds is totally not on and don't care what anyone says. Even more so when kids born and bred here are being kept alive by charities.

oops...yep it's 55 million....yep that would be about 60 billion a year then ha ha. Good spot and thanks.

It was 40 million a day in 2009.

It is currently 55 million a day now. Wow, 15 million increase from 2009 to date, 2016 in just 7 years give or take? How much more will be it in 2023, 70 million or more? See the pattern? How was that overstated by 28 million?

Exactly, the ECJ court has legal authority whilst the UK's ECA 1972 is still in power. So, it makes no difference what the government says. It makes for a nice headline anyway....until it comes to a legal case and you won't see David Cameron for dust!

"Our EU membership fee is £55 million a day"—Nigel Farage, 26 March 2014

In the calendar year 2014, we did pay over £53 million a day to the EU. But that's a gross figure. A lot of it comes back. The net payment — once you strip out Britain's budget rebate and other transfers — amounted to £27 million a day last year.
