Scrapping the human rights act and replacing it with a British bill of rights could be the biggest mistake the Tories will ever make. Resistance to this move has been voiced by many old Tory heavyweights and could see the government torn in two.
Yes, as a nation, we may have invented the concept of modern human rights with the drawing up of Magna Carta (although we must bow to the Ancient Greeks when it comes to the true concept of Justice). Yes as a country we may have a relatively clean human rights record but…….
This is also a country that invented the concentration camp. This is a country that allowed prisoners to be detained without charge for 7 days without charge. This is also a country that allows social services unconditional powers in an attempt to atone for previous failures. This is a country where we have seen, again and again, the burden of proof to be with the defendant and not the prosecution or claimant and this is a country where ‘HANG EM HIGH’ Gove will have his hand on the tiller when we take this momentous step back into the dark ages. (Ok it may have been 20 years ago but he was pretty clear about how he felt)
Now I know many people may be pro capital punishment but personally I find it despicable that someone with such draconian ideas should be allowed within a country mile of a bill that will decide the faith of the wrongly accused, condemned or persecuted.
Have a look and judge for yourself.

It seems to be laced with slick rhetoric and politic speak. To be honest it tells you sweet FA.
There seems to be a lot of anti EU feeling about at the moment and yes, perhaps some of us object to European countries such as Germany and France having any say in how straight our Cucumbers are but there are benefits and I believe they far outweigh the cons. The European court of Human rights is one of those benefits. It may be slow and clogged but that is because it is so inundated. It is busy because it is used. It is used because it is essential.
