  • Hiding behind the Data Protection Act

    Mini rant.

I had a phone call yesterday from a person claiming to be from, lets say ABC company, asking if Mrs XXXXXXX was available.
I asked for details of the company, ie who they are, what they do, etc.
I was informed by the caller that, unless I identified myself as Mrs XXXXXXX, they couldn't give me that info as it 'was not allowed for Data Protection' reasons.

It cheeses me off that these people quote legislation when they clearly haven't a clue.

How does giving information on the business 'raison d'etre' possibly affect the data rights of a 'living person'?
