Debenhams is to start charging 5p for carrier bags in another breakthrough for the campaign against 'plastic blight'. The department store is the first fashion retailer to opt for charging, putting pressure on shops like Bhs, Next and Topshop to follow suit. Debenhams, which is to try out several schemes, joins a growing list of household name retailers backing the Daily Mail's drive to 'Banish the bags'
