  • Coroner advice and care home negligence

Hi all. I hope I am posting in the right place.

My mother died earlier this year after a stay in a care home. Without being too specific, I believe that negligence was involved and this contributed to her death. The safe guarding team have investigated and found several 'areas of improvement' that the home could make to make sure it doesn't happen again. This, of course, is of little comfort to me and my family. At the safe guarding meeting I had to sign a confidentiality agreement.

I will soon have to attend the inquest at coroners court which I am worried about having not been through anything like this before. I am tying to find info online and I have read that the inquest will also be confidential (even though it is open to the public??). I have also read that the inquest is not about blame but is about fact-finding.

So my questions are, is the coroners verdict really confidential? Can the coroner take action on the negligence aspect or is that for me to do after the inquest? Am I allowed to tell/show a solicitor the outcome of the inquest and the safe guarding report? If not then what proof do I have?

Thank you for reading. Any advice would be very much appreciated.
