Hello,
After difficulties getting my finance company to accept a VT on my old car, they collected it a few weeks back.
Today, I've received two identical letters (no idea why) with a large list of charges. Could I get some advise on how to handle these please?
Collection
They are charging £138.29 for collection. As stated in my VT letter and subsequent email trying to arrange the car to be removed, I was happy to drop it off at their auction house providing their timings were sensible. Alternatively, they could collect at their own expense. The auction house was open for two hours twice a week during the working day. Given it's an hours drive from my home, it wasn't going to happen. I emailed the finance company this and received a call from the auction house to arrange collection. I don't believe I should be paying for the collection of their vehicle, particularly not when I took reasonable steps to return it in the time frame they gave me. Any ideas where I stand on this?
Random added product
It's listed on this letter as "Multipart settlement" of £172.68. I posted about this but don't think I received a response. They are claiming I took out alloy and tyre protection on that vehicle. I did not. Whilst it is in my contract (down as "value" - yes, I know I should have questioned this), the finance company originally sent me a document called a Dealer Invoice Bar Code Page that details the cover but does not have either mine or the sales reps signatures on it (it does have the vehicle reg though). I'm don't particularly want to pay for something I had no knowledge of, ESPECIALLY as the finance company want to charge me £180 for scuffs to the alloys. Surely, that just proves I didn't know about the cover? I really don't know where I stand on this or how to argue it.
Existing scratches
They are also trying to claim £279 for scratches on the front left side of the vehicle that were there when I purchased it. The dealers I purchased the car from has closed. I do have pictures of the scratches on the day I purchased the vehicle but actually am not sure how to argue this.
No existing damage
They are claiming the front bumper of the car was misaligned. I have pictures on the day of collection showing it wasn't AND that wasn't brought up when the collection agent did a walk around with me. Any ideas on that?
Finally, they are telling me I have 14 days to pay the amount up full. There are a minor scratch on the back of the car and the seats needed cleaning - I'm happy to pay that. However, I can't afford it all and certainly not in one go especially when I don't agree with the things they have said.
Also, the letter is dated the 24th September but I've only received it today, so their 14 day countdown is a week on before I even got chance to see the letter.
Could someone offer any advise? They want the best part of a grand off me and I really don't know what to do.
