Hi, for context I’m a University student from the UK. The period of my contract is August 2020 to July 2021, and from basically almost the beginning we have had builders/garden-construction workers working in our garden 8-4 every weekday. There is zero mention of this in our contract and it’s becoming intolerable - they’re blasting music outside one of my housemates windows from 8am every morning, for example. It’s exam season approaching and last exam season we sent our landlord a message asking for him to stop the work for at least the 2 weeks that out exams ran across - this didn’t happen and I had to sit my 3 hour exam to the sound of a chainsaw; with everything being online, we have no choice but to work and do our exams from home.
I was just wondering if anything could be done about this? Like I’m fairly sure this shouldn’t be legal and we should’ve been told about this construction work prior to signing the contract, no?
I was wondering if anything could be done about this / can we claim back compensation for our rent, for example?
Our back garden is basically unusable as it’s full of their work gear, and chopped down trees (which they then burn and make a fire, again shouldn’t be allowed?).
I don’t know anyone with background knowledge about the legal work behind this so any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.
