  • Confidentiality has been broken after dismissal.

I just met a friend from work and she informed me she overheard a manager make a comment about my shopping order might contain alcohol and he was going to check. She then heard 2 colleagues discussing my battle with alcohol from his department. I'm am absolutely fuming as during my disciplinary I told them I had a serious drink problem which has given me cirrhosis and major liver disease. I have been sober 3 years and have not had a single day off sick in that time. Even though every day tasks are challenging I have always given the company 100% and most often done 10 hour shifts without a break 5 days a week.

Firstly he was not involved with my disciplinary so how does he know. Secondly why is he discussing it with colleagues who I have kept this secret from as I'm ashamed of my past. I feel the company has damaged my name and I'm left feeling anger and sadness that I gave such information to save my job and said I do not want this to leave this room. I was told it's strictly confidential.

I'm appealing my dismissal and am even more determined to screw the company for the way they have treated me. If I mention in my letter asking why the appeal has taken over 4 weeks and still no date the above could this help my case? Is it classed as breach of trust or breach of colleague confidentially?

    Many thanks for any advice.

By the way I my dismissal had nothing to do with drink or drink related.
