Hi all
I have a query about an old debt that has been bought by Cabot.
Cabot have written to say they now own my debt from an old NatWest credit card and that I owe around £2200. I defaulted in 2010 due to illness and have made no contact with them since so I believe this debt to be statute barred as I haven’t had a CCJ for this listed on my credit report and the debt itself disappeared a couple of years back.
After the initial letter saying they now owned my debt, they sent a second letter offering me a ‘discount’ on my repayment and that they would close my account if I pay just over £200. This seems an extremely sizeable discount, so to me this suggests that they don’t have much of a case against me. My question is do i (a) do nothing, (b) send a statute barred letter or (c) cut my losses and pay the £200-odd to get rid of this once and for all?
Thanks in advance
