how to complete certificate of service? n215 help!

I am confused by the certificate of service. I posted the paper claim form issued by the court to the defendant at their ltd company registered office address from companies house. There is no option for this place on the n215.

The closest options to tick are called 'prinicpal office of the company' or 'place of business with a real connection to the claim'.

The defendant is one of those dodgey corporate entities with no real world existence other than a registered office. The registered office is one of those places that many companies are registered at just so they can use that address.

So, which box do I tick or should I tick 'other' and write a description in?

I would have thought 'other' is for unusual venues for service such as a boxing match or down the pub, etc. It seems weird there is no option for registered office. Perhaps 'principal office' is just a wider term that might describe the main business place of a company or could also describe a registered office of the company whether or not any business activities take place there?

Could someone please explain - there is no definition of 'principal office' anywhere online or in any book!

• Individual - usual or last known address
• Individual being sued in name of business - usual or last known residence of individual or principal or last known place of business
• Individual being sued in name of partnership - usual or last known residence of individual or principal or last known place of partnership
• Company registered in England and Wales - principal office or any place of business of the company within England and Wales which has a real connection to the claim
• Corporation incorporated in England and Wales - principal office of company or any place of business within England and Wales where corporation carries on its activities and which has a real connection to the claim
• Any other corporation of company - any place within England and Wales where the corporation carried on its activities or any place of business of the company within England and Wales
