Apologies if this is the wrong forum - I need some help.
If someone has a CCJ on their credit file dated the 17th April, if they send a cheque to the creditor which reaches them by the 16th May, will this be sufficient for the CCJ to be removed from the record?
As far as I can tell, it is the date when payment is received (not when it clears) that matters - which makes sense, as the company could just bank all cheques together at the end of the week. Would proof of posting to the company (and special delivery to evidence that it is received on the 16th), and then the payment itself be sufficient to evidence that payment was 'made' before the 17th?
Unfortunately, this is a CCJ which I wasn't aware of until checking my credit file recently (I moved address just as they issued the claim - my fault, it's an old student debt and I hadn't updated them with my new address). I only have until Friday to pay - but don't have the funds till Monday, but if I send them the cheque to arrive on Monday, by the time it clears, I'll have the funds in my account (payday is on the Monday!).
