Re: Latest updates on PPI Judicial Review and claims on hold

I'm sure we've discussed the possibility of the BBA winning their case, this does not stop payouts whatsoever, merely the manner in which they are judged. Even if the Supreme Court rules in the BBA's favour payouts will continue. Suggesting that reclaiming PPI that is missold will stop dead if the BBA win is simply unrealistic and scaremongering.

Absolutely pompeyfaith, a service sector cannot survive in the longer term without something to generate wealth i.e. added value which is what manufacturing is all about.

I will never change nlp's views because the mind is closed to anything other than a set way of thinking which was started in earnest by Thatcherism. However just take a look nlp now at con-man Camerons pleas to get "apprenticeships" going again. perhaps we should also get rid of a lot of the mickey mouse universities giving out worthless degrees and get them back to being technical colleges and polytechnics again. Doing some real work.

And on topic there is much discussion that the banks will Appeal around the net and I still believe that they will. One such discussion in a newspaper slated the European Court for having non-elected judges interfering in our way of life, quite unlike here. Can someone point me in the direction where I might cast my vote for or against a judge in this country, particularly at the seniority level of the ECJ judges please?

    Regards
    Garlok.

(said in jest, before the entire LB community come gunning for me lol.)
The figure for ROE of 490% is from the Competition Commission's report here - http://www.competition-commission.or...ind_report.pdf

    See paragraph 27 -
"PPI distribution is highly profitable. We calculated that the 12 largest distributors
made profits after tax in excess of the cost of capital on PPI of £1.4 billion in 2006,
representing a return on equity (RoE) of 490 per cent. "

Have a look at some of the other posts in this blog. Interesting and well sourced stuff about other rip-offs, including pensions, ISAs,.

PLEASE NOTE, THE PDF LINK BELOW IS NOT a copy of my letter, its actually supposed to be a standard letter that Lloyds TSB are sending or supposed to be sending consumerists with complaints.
This is apparently addressed to a claims company.

    (I found this OTR).

    http://reclaimuk.com/resources/LloydsTSBLetterAPR11.pdf

I am however expecting the same letter, this will more than likely be the one I will receive next.

A country cannot survive on a service sector only it needs a good mix of construction, manufacturing also but sadly they are lacking to what they once were.

Each industry will have a peak and a trough and thus one supports the other and keeps the balance with just a service industry if that troughs we are in the dodo with no other sector to look too.

Let 'em go and we can get back to manufacturing things in this country. The Japanese disasters have revealed just how vulnerable we are relying on the likes of Diamond and his grubby little mates.

    Agreed totally

and how would we support a manufacturing base when faced with competition from Chindia?

If the products are good enough and of a high standard they will sell this country is or should I say was acknowledged for high quality products it was thatcherisam that started the sell off of british industry and the private companies followed suit that has to return.

we are a service based economy now and have to get used to it.

Not by the British citizens choice

Steel industry just refer to what the Chief Executive of TaTa has said in the last two years about Britain and the level of investment.

Technical ability in the UK is the best in the world. For example the hard disk drive was invented in Winchester Hampshire UK and you would not be doing what you are doing without it on here. Thin film technology used in the silicion/gallium arsenide industry, much was developed here and still is, just refer to the patents register. So take a look and stop knocking. When I worked in engineering design you could lift the telephone to almost any design office in the world and a Brit would answer usually with a Midlands accent to boot.

I could go on but it is a bad financial mangement, weak poor quality politicians that have "educated" you into believing the statements you have just made. And i have not even touched on transportation costs yet or the rising price gradient of your "Chindia" products. Take a good look at Germany, Italy, France and see what they have done and are doing.

Garlok - For every Nissan there is a Land Rover/Jaguar.

It's not what the service sector tells me, its what the GDP and employment figures tell in terms of who employs who in this country.

I am certainly not knocking, just being realistic, this country may have had all the engineering skills of days gone by.. but where are they in 2011? Move with the times... anecdotes denoting times gone by should stay.... in those times!

Italy are frankly a mess, France so so.. Germany has clearly been booming in recent years and for good reason. They totally have their unions working in unison with management to great effect... clearly not the case in this country with the likes of the fat oath bob crow and his cronies.

France? forget it.. they have worse unions than us.

Also the Germans have far less domestic debt as opposed to their British counterparts, therefore they have all more or less accepted no wage inflation... deflation almost.

We simply don't have the talent pool in the engineering stakes that we clearly once did.

Many sensible commentators including a specialist Reuters investigation and report have openly discussed this. If Diamond wants to go then let him, his own country doesn't want him. Just remember it was him that boasted to a Parliamentary Select Committee that Barclays had paid 2 billion into the Treasury via taxation on "his Bank". When examined that does not stand up to scrutiny, in fact most of that was made up of payroll taxes from his employees and only 113million please note million was corporation tax on the business. The rest of the tax had been evaded by offshore machinations.

not sure we have a working class in this country willing to work 14 hours a day for maybe less than a pound an hour as is the case in the aforementioned emerging economies.
