Re: Cento Client Review - BEWARE!!!
Centro called back this evening to see if I had had time to think! I asked them where they had got my infomation and telephone number from and was told it was consumer credit information that they had access to?????? Told them a little web searching last night had provided me with enough information to be clear I would not want to part with any money for their "services". Imediately the response was .... did you get information from Legal Beagals? I said that I had and she replied that I should be aware that they were considering legal action against LB for their misrepresentation and that all I needed to know was that they were a regulated company. Thankfully I don't part with cash that easily and having read the thread on LB about this company I am very happy I was'nt able to be swayed despite her persistance. Thank you to all at LB for the clear info and advice!

Thank goodness Gordon that you had the sense to do some research before your friend parted with £149.
Please ask you friend to register and if there is anything we could help her with in the way of reclaiming the services here are all free and she would be in control and further more she would not be parting with any further information to a third party.
According to Ministry of Justice they should not be cold calling and if you have a read of the BBC article that I just posted just confirms that consumers should be very wary of dealing with these companies and parting with their hard earned cash.

another news article on Claims management Companies misleading adverts.
Debt adverts misleading, says ASA
A debt management company has been told not to publish misleading adverts about the chances of people being able to write off their debts.
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) said an ad from the website Loan-Free was misleading.
It had suggested that credit card and bank debts agreed before April 2007 might not need to be repaid.
But the ASA said the company and its solicitors had failed to provide sufficient evidence to back this up.
The advert in question, published in regional newspapers, had stated: "If your credit card or loan was taken out before April 2007 it could be completely unenforceable and will not need to be repaid.
"Our solicitors can use government legislation to arrange for your outstanding balances to be written off and claim compensation for you."
The ASA decided this "was likely to mislead readers as to the likelihood of their debts being written off".
Warnings
The past year has seen a boom in the number of claims management companies trying to encourage people to challenge the legality of loan agreements which had struck before April 2007, under the old provisions of the 1974 Consumer Credit Act.
They argue that if lenders cannot prove they have stuck to the strict paperwork requirements of the 1974 law, then the debts cannot be enforced.
Firms trying to attract this sort of business have recently been warned by the Ministry of Justice, the Office of Fair Trading and the solicitors' regulatory authority not to exaggerate the chances of success.
Loan-Free, run by a business called Debt Free UK, denied its advert contained any exaggeration.
It said its advert did not promise that all debts could necessarily be written off.
The firm told the ASA that 76% of the credit card agreements, and 85% of the loan agreements, they had passed to their solicitors had breached the terms of the consumer credit act to the point where they were legally unenforceable.
However, the firm's solicitors refused to back this up to the satisfaction of the ASA.
Arguing that supplying the figures would be a breach of their obligation to maintain their clients' confidentiality, they said only that "they had successfully challenged numerous credit agreements, with balances written off and clients' credit ratings restored". Debt Free UK was also criticised by the ASA for not making it clear in its advert that customers might have to pay fees to both the company and its solicitors.

To clarify just because you 'agreed' to the charges at the outset does not mean they can't be challenged at a later date - There are already a number of matters being fought on precisely those grounds - It also the OFT argument that whether or not it can be claimed by the banks that we agreed to the penalty charges the OFT intend to rule them unfair

Re: Cento Client Review - BEWARE!!!
Welcome simon
Well I suppose to some extent they are correct - However only in the broadest sense in that the 2006 CCA and the Unfair Practices Act does allow you to dispute your agreement if the % charged is excessive. The problem is is that there is little case law based on this new law & it remains to be tested to any degree in the County Courts - So in truth yes there is a means by which you can recover over inflated % charges but I doubt it'll only take a few weeks also as it's Capstone you'll be fighting tooth & nail before you achieve anything
That's the bad news now tell us your problem (in detail) & perhaps we can help as even with Crapstone all may not be lost.........incidentally have you heard of securitisation?

Re: Cento Client Review - BEWARE!!!
Hi all this is my first post
I received a phone call from them today advising me that I could claim back the excessive interest paid out on my non-sub-prime mortgage - to the tune of £3000. Considering that I am on my last legs with my lender, Capstone, I was overjoyed at the thought of being able to give the lender £3k of their own money back to reduce my arrears. Then I found this thread after feeling suspicious about the eagerness to take £150 from me that I haven't got.
I got a phonecall back from the same guy that still insists that they are legitimate and that they can get a payment back to me in around twelve weeks. I mentioned MSE and this site and he put it down saying there are always negative words on the net relating to companies etc.. and did I want to recoup £3k or not? I asked him to call me back in another week after I had sufficient time to research. I asked for written informatiom before making a payment and he said that they only send out an information pack after payment has been made. I had a few more questions but the number was witheld when I tried to call it back. I have never had payment protection, this is just about overpayments of interest 'that the government has actioned against allowing recovery of over-payments from unscrupulous lenders'.
So is there a scheme for people like me that were pushed into taking the only loan I could get from a sub-prime lender that charged ridiculous interest rates; or am I stuck with it and is this just another scam?
Any replies greatly appreciated.

What is a FSO? Not sure where you got this from?
What is the process? How do you mean?
Why not use a company like Cento? - even if they are an introductory compamy, even if the solicitors charge 25-50%, if they are willing to do the work they should get paid. Absolutely, I agree with you.
All I want ot know is there an honest comany that will provide the service and make the claims without me having to do it. You have to make your own judgement as to whether they are an honest company after doing your research.
Any comments and advise welcome!
We can only give you our experiences so far and the main fact is they say they portray during their telephone call that they have a firm of Solicitors called Forbes Douglas - In fact Forbes Douglas are not Solicitors.
They have told other callers that they have been in business for 3 years - this is not true they were only incorporated this year.
I asked them where did you get all my personal information - the told me that the FSA asked them to call me. this is not true.
They knew too much about me and other posters on this thread - so how did they get our personal information? This is to be very honest my main concern.
I would be worried about giving them anymore of my personal information, as who knows what they might do with it by selling it on.
At the end of the day - it is always your choice with what you want to do, all I ask is that you make a thorough investigation, because belive me there are a lot of horror stories out there.
Please have a good read of this thread and I would also draw your attention to the BBC blog which I posted here from Saturday's BBC 1 News, which includes the Ministry of Justice and the Citizens advice as well as a consumer that paid £265 to an organisation such as Cento last March and they have not heard another word. I was also interviewed by the BBC as you will see.
We can also help you here on this site for free....
I wish all the best

Re: Cento Client Review - BEWARE!!!
Hi, I have just received a call from this bunch too & thought they knew far too much about me so started questioning them.
appareently they buy their databases from the following sources
1. 1st Class Data
2. Masterclass Data
3. Selectabase
They were talking about reclaiming interest off mortgages, loans etc but mentioned all of the banks, building societies and lenders that I have had dealings with in the past. This is scary stuff as some of the loans have been paid off for over 5 yrs now!
Is there any threats that I can go back to them with to get me off their lists?
looking forward to hearing from you.
Carlson
