Must admit I had never heard it before, but I just put it down to me being an old fart and out of touch.

Around here and in other areas also, it's understood meaning is a Gypsy or a traveller, who may or may not be dodgy, there are many different meanings for words within regions and dialects. so doubtless Op didn't mean anything bad by it, either way it doesn't bother me and he will never see this post so it matters not at all. Someone from the West Midlands may refer to something "Bostin" as good, in the Potteries, the admonition " 'ers reight bosted" means she is an ugly woman

To the OP (GO84): I am of the same vintage as PlanB and you may be aware that in our day we had many more civil liberties (PlanB has touched on this) for which previous generations have fought and died. We also fought in our day (the 60s and 70s) by different means to keep and expand them. It is a fact that these liberties (for which people died) have been eroded by successive governments more recently and that is maybe where some of us find your approach hard and unsympathetic. Gravytrain has offered a very creative step towards a solution to the bailiff issue - there are others that would take many more pages. In the meantime - to all - respect:yo:

Very true, those remaining liberties are under serious threat, especially with the slow creep to Corpus Juris, foisted on us by the EU.

To me pikey means low life as in scally or chav. It has nothing to do with travellers. I am and have been for a good few years in both the East and West midlands the west midlands having some of the rudest and most ignorant people you can imagine. Even within a locality words take on different meanings.

The guy on the video was from North Nottinghamshire area and the accents are a bit rough, he was also trying to be clever in a smart alec kind of way. Certainly what he was saying about private parking companies seems to be the general advice given OTR as well.

Oh go on! I am sure that if you really try you can force out some witty rejoinder humorously relating to a bodily function.

Bluebottle comes up with some hilarious comments, as does CleverClogs, however some seem to be distracted by it, for something different one could try the Elizabethan insult generator app for Android or Web OS

So we could describe a bailiff using this as "A fawning base-court pignut". meaning they are a grovelling inferior carrot-like plant eaten by pigs...

Oh, then who was I referring to? To be honest I wish now I hadn't said a couple of things but I didn't realise people would be so sensitive to them. I could have just said he was behaving like a bum or a deadbeat rather than a pikey.

Well, personally I've never felt like I don't live in a free country, and call me naïve but I think it's a very long way from ceasing to be so, and I think 61shirley's stance is pretty over-the-top and he's taking common law far too literally, such as his claims that we should have to pay to park on public land because it belongs to us. And don't try and say he's isn't without at least watching some more of his videos or reading his comments to me.

This thread is distasteful and i find insulting.

One of the fundamental rights we have is choice.

That is the choice to agree or disagree with anothers view point. But to attack that persons point of view without any supporting evidence is insulting and ignorent. The comments made have been nothing but subjective and without merit.

Personally i do not agree with this Freeman of the Land doctrine as their has never been a recorded case in a court of law where a defence has been successful.

But i will not ridicule his points of view for which he is entitled to have, be them on you-tube or any other media outlet

Anyway... these fines he's been given by the council, he's avoided them so far, but they are kept on file, right? Surely they're not just going to forget about them. What is the outcome of this likely to be? What's the worst case scenario here? And don't forget the TV licence avoidance. And I think he avoids paying water rates. There's probably other things he avoids. I am genuinely curious because I cannot believe it's that easy to outsmart the government.
