I'll give FOS a ring tomorrow and explain the situation. Not hopeful they'll act, but you never know.. i'll also continue to gather evidence to help my cause.

I only have the most recent letter detailing their address, which funnily enough is 39 Victoria Street, London. However, I don't think the College Credit I dealt with was at that address. I'll try to find out.

Well this looks like they have registered a different address with the FSA

Both companies use the same address for companies house register and the companies where incorporated a lot earlier than 2005.

Well it seems there current licence was granted in we say in 2005 but as both company names have been around for a lot longer than this it stands to reason given the nature of business they are in they must have had a licence before this.

That is what I'm trying to find out now.

I think they're trying to claim that they weren't regulated by FSA in 2003, so FOS will not act. However, they never provided the insurance - it was a third party comany, Pinnacle Insurance i believe.

The ABI regulated (members had to abide by their code of practice) general insurance until the regulation (if one could call it regulation, again more like a code of practice) was passed to the GISC;
in 2005 the Financial Services Authority (FSA) took over as the regulator.

I believe that Pinnacle, is now owned by BNP Paribas.

Ok, I have spoken to FOS and they say I have to find out who the broker was who originally arranged the finance for me.

I'm going to have to send the Finance company a SAR to find this out, as I can't remember much about them other than that they were in Cumbernauld. I doubt they're even trading now..

I think i'm going to ****ing into the wind on this, but I'll try.

Anyhow,

Feels like I'm getting the runaround here...

Lodged a claim with Pinnacle, who told me they are just underwriters and not involved in the selling of the ppi. They referred it back to the finance company, PCFG, who reiterated their stance.

However they did tell me the name of the broker they received the application from, a company in Stockport called Origin Finance. But I dealt with a broker in Cumbernauld, Glasgow?

After much investigation with Google Maps, I've managed to find the street in Glasgow where the broker i dealt with was based (Dunnswood Road, Cumbernauld) and there is a finance broker listed at that address. But the name - Focus Finance - doesn't ring a bell, and I'm sure the broker I dealt with was under a different name. Its funny, as I can remember the broker's first name but not the company.

So it seems my Cumbernauld broker was acting as an agent for a Stockport-based broker, who was acting as an agent for PCFG who underwrote the PPI through Pinnacle, and no-one is taking responsibility.

I can't find any company records for Focus Finance, or details of any previous finance businesses at that address that might be the ones I'm after.

I'm totally baffled now!

There is another listing for Focus Finance in Edinburgh; No Accounts Filed.

It is about time that Pinnacle/Cardiff Pinnacle, should take responsibility for underwriting some of the, general insurance that was sold...how much longer will they hide in the long grass?

Their name keeps on cropping up in relation to mis-sold PPI.

The name Focus Financial certainly doesn't ring any bells, but the dates are certainly correct, having been incorporated in 2003 - the year I took the finance out. It would appear then, that this is the mob responsible despite them now being dissolved.

I'm a bit more concerned about PCFG's claim that they dealt with a Stockport-based broker. With Focus now out the picture, surely I don't now have to go after them? Especially as I wasn't aware that my broker was acting as a broker for them and not on their own? I thought I was dealing with the Cumbernauld mob, not some other party by proxy...

This is a tangled web, and I can't find the ends.

According to the letter from PCFG, it was Origin Finance , not Origen.

I've taken copies of the information provided for Focus Finance and Origin Finance and will send everything to the FOS... maybe they can sort it out?
