I had cause to withdraw some of the funds sometime ago and they charged me for it because I didnt repay it within a timescale so I created a bit and they refunded the charges, I was with them for 10 years. Their paperwork is awful.

They quoted me £100 a month over 12 months but the the paperwork showed £200 a month over 12 months. They promised to resend paperwork but never did.

hmmm. So you were paying £6.47 a month to the Cabot debt ( of about £4k) and there were no other letters about it between October and November. The October statement doesn't show a balance of each debt. You were paying £200 a month TO Compass and only £48.11 was going to creditors.

October shows your pot balance was just over £7k and outstanding debt was about £14k ( going from Nov's statement ).

So IF they had paid that Cabot debt of £4k your pot balance would be £3k and outstanding debt £10k.

Very unclear statements and communications from Compass, I'm not surprised no one had a clue where they stood with anything.

do you know what that £580 Refund of Withdrawal Fees is ?


Anyway on the Cabot subject, you will need to either ring them ( if you are comfortable doing so) or write to them with something like the following;


Dear Cabot,

REF: 3xxxxxxx

Thank you for your recent letter regarding the closure of the Debt Management company, Compass Debt Counsellors.

I am concerned that your letter states an outstanding balance of £3903.44. In November 2015 I was notified that the account had been settled, I enclose a copy of that notification for your reference.

I would be grateful if you could check your records and send me a full statement of the account detailing all payments made to your company, and any charges/interested charged by yourselves since XXXDATE YOU SET UP DMPXXXX with regards this debt, in order I may assess my options going forwards.

Thank you for confirming the account has been placed on hold for three months, I am in contact with Stepchange and am currently gathering the information from my creditors and I hope to get things back up and running within the next two months.

I was referred to Abbey solicitors however they sent forms with the incorrect fee so it never went ahead.

Can you tell us what you mean by the incorrect fee?

Hi, I have only registered today so sorry if this isnt how you do it. I was also a client of Compass. I was referred to Abbey solicitors however they sent forms with the incorrect fee so it never went ahead. I have had several letters off creditors giving me time to sort it. The most disturbing is a letter from a creditor stating I owe £4000. I had previously had a letter from Compass in October 2015 stating that they had paid this creditor off.. Where do I stand with this as the £4000 was withdrawn from my compass account back in October 2015 and now seems to be missing/stolen. Can anyone help?

Hi Unlimited 5. The Compass pots were largely a huge myth - there was only £22,000 in the clients' account on liquidation when there should have been £2,000,000 approx. The Directors (3) couldn't explain either how the clients' money was transferred to this account or where it had gone - figures were not their strong point.

You will see on here, many people talking about their pots and accounts apparently being paid off but the reality is unfortunately very few were actually paid off; this is one main area the Liquidator is looking into and it could have very serious consequences for the Directors3.

The liquidation process is exceedingly slow but the Compass clients' Committee hope to have a report in few weeks. We will then meet to discuss the early findings and keep everyone in the picture who lets us have their email address. You can leave it in a Compass Private Group of Private Message me and I will add you to our list. Best not to post private details in the public threads.

I have sent over the October statement. The one you have states that the particular agreement has been paid off in full. It was at this point that Compass stopped showing how much was in the pot.

The letter from Compass doesn't actually state that it was paid off with a full and final settlement or just come to the end of monthly payments. Do you happen to have the previous month's statement showing the balance on the Cabot debt ?

Also, the other companies that still have balances showing on that statement - do they match up with what creditors have said is outstanding ?
