  • Brighthouse overpayment.

Hi i'm new to the forum, but i got a problem, i have 7 item's with Brighthouse, and total i pay is 104 a week, and so far i'm in my 3 and a half yr's into the payment, i have never missed a single one, but every time i go to my local store and i ask what i have left to pay on my item's, the answer i get is over a yr on the item's so far they have had 12 grand out of me, and seem's there is no chance of it being payed of anytime soon, Thing is i'm getting to the stage i no longer want to pay, but as im not the sort of person who want's to have problem's in long run, i just have no clue what to do.

I think you need to ask for a breakdown of your account! Have you got all your original agreements?

I used the agreement and they told me it has changed because they changed how you pay for item's now as you can no longer use your own insurance so they added it on top.

That sounds wrong to me did you have to sign new contracts when they did this?
I would suggest a formal complaint is in order here ... to the manager of the store first, and maybe higher up (if that doesn't work).

Your local CAB office would help you to sort out a letter if you needed (or your MP)

Have you worked out how much the original items you bought would have cost ?

              3.5 yrs @ £104 a week is more like £18k btw.

If you've got your original agreements, they should tell you how long each payment scheme would last for (and their total cost)

Thing is 3 yr's is basically longest you can pay for, but it seem's to just go on and on, and for the item's most arn't even 2 yr's long to be paid up on, and i gone over 3.5 yr's.

                        3640 tv
                        1486 ps3
                        2184 ipad
                        2366 phone 1
                        2366 phone 2

                        total = £ 13528

Ok that's very very basic maths 52*weekly * 3.5 yrs - so probably over the top but, still, fricking nora !

Yes need to find out the original agreements if you have them see what agreed to and where this insurance came in.

                          Re: Brighthouse overpayment.

OK ... payment arrangements for items through BH can last anywhere between 52 and 156 weeks (depending on the value of the item). You need to look at your original agreements and find out how long each one was for (and the weekly cost/total cost).
If you can put those details in a list (similar to the one below) it will make it easier to work it out:
1; Tumble Dryer - date agreement started - total cost - £££ per week - over ???? weeks
                          2; Phone A - date agreement started - total cost - £££ per week - over ???? weeks
                          3; Phone B - date agreement started - total cost - £££ per week - over ???? weeks
                          4; TV - date agreement started - total cost - £££ per week - over ???? weeks
                          5; PS3 - date agreement started - total cost - £££ per week - over ???? weeks
Debt is like any other trap, easy enough to get into, but hard enough to get out of.

After all calculations as i got a statement from last june, i have paid 4.8k but i paid 104 a week for 3 yr's so something is wrong there, 4.8k upto today, but for 3 yr's at 104, there is money gone somewhere.

You need to go and ask BH for a breakdown of what you have paid, when it was paid and how much you still owe!!
