  • Akinika/IQor Harassment

About a year ago IQor wrote to me explaining that they were in charge of my debt to HMRC for unpaid National Insurance contributions. After talking to Iqor, we agreed that I'd pay £30 per month - that was all I could afford.

A few months ago, they telephoned me insisting that I increase the payments, otherwise HMRC would be taking control of the debt again - it was implied that when that happened, things would get more serious, etc. I explained that I genuinely couldn't afford any more.

Today I received the following letter from Akinika:

"Despite previous requests we notice that the above balance remains unpaid and is seriously overdue.

HM Revenue & Customs has issued strict instructions that we recover the FULL BALANCE immediately.

I therefore request that you contact us as a matter of urgency on 01772 557642, or I will have no alternative but to recommend to HMRC they review your account for enforcement action and litigation where necessary.

I would like to remind you that any legal action may result in fees and legal costs incurred during successful litigation being added to your account, in addition to statutory interest. Successful litigation seriously hinders your ability to obtain credit in the future."

I'd really appreciate any advice please. As far as I was concerned, we'd agreed the repayment plan, which was already hard from me, but now this intimating letter suggests that unless I pay the rest in full, they'll take action against me.

    Many thanks,

    Scott

      Re: Akinika/IQor Harassment

Thanks Wolf, it's for Class 2 NI Contributions.

The original balance was £649.40 but after my payments, my balance now stands at £309.40.

They claim that HMRC need the balance paid off by March, so want me to pay £70 (instead of £30) per month now to achieve this.

Interestingly, when talking to them just a few minutes ago they have themselves stopped my automatic monthly payments. She said that since I can't manage £70 per month instead of £30, it's up to me to clear my balance otherwise they will report back to HMRC.

Surely if this ever went to court, the fact that they have stopped my payments on the account will make them look pretty foolish.

      Thanks,

      Scott.

        Idiots aren't they.

When did you start the £30 payments ?

Have you spoken with HMRC directly at all since IQor got involved ?

          They certainly are, lol.

I started the £30 payments in January, and have not spoken to HMRC since iQor were involved, except (I think) to confirm that that it was genuine.

What do you think is the best course of action?

            Thanks,

              Re: Akinika/IQor Harassment

Maybe give HMRC a call and tell them of the situation with IQoR re your installment payments - they may just say they've handed it to IQoR but they might help you sort it out or tell you what's next - info from the horses mouth is always best in my view.

                Re: Akinika/IQor Harassment

Just another question on this please. Aren't they obliged by law to let me know in writing if they are going to stop my payments?

Plus I asked for a statement of my account, but they refused.

                  Re: Akinika/IQor Harassment

Would appreciate some help please. Just spoken to Akinika and apparently HMRC are taking the debt back since I couldn't clear the balance in time. It appears that they can't wait until September (when the debt would be clear) they want it in February! According to Akinika I'm in big trouble now!

I also asked for a statement (again!) and was told they could send one but I'd have to pay £10. I strongly contested this but because it's passed on from HMRC (or something like that) that is the law.

Please help, this is causing me a lot of stress.

                  Thanks in advance,

                  Scott.

Find your MP at https://www.writetothem.com/ and get them on the case.

Thanks, CleverClogs, do you think my MP will do something about it and what should I ask them to do?

                      Thanks again,

                      Scott.

Your MP may be able to persuade HMRC to reconsider their calculations and, more importantly, to allow you longer to pay.

OMG! I've just stumbled across this site and this thread and I feel so sorry for you! Why? Because you've been CONNED!
Akinika/Iqor are a debt collection agency (DCA) and as such have NO power or rights to collect money from you!
Everything they have told you are LIES! They have been sold your alleged debt for approx 10% of it's full value and are getting you to pay to them in full!
Guess what happens when is clear? IF you continue? They pocket the other 90%!
NEVER EVER answer any DCA's security questions when they call and NEVER EVER call THEM!!!!
STOP paying NOW. Cancel any direct debits if you were foolish enough to set one up IMMEDIATELY!!!
If they call, just say 'only contact me in writing' and hang up! File & ignore all letters!

Either way Akinika/Iqor will be getting their cut somewhere long the line for no reason.
