They did not give me a breakdown of their calculations and yes I was happy with their offer as it all but cancelled my outstanding account with them barring a few quid.

Letter received today from Barclaycard, will scan it up later.......................possibly........cos I`m good at that too

Basically they are refunding me £180 of charges plus £19.62 interest at "the contractual rate" totalling £199.62

The balance is currently £190 odd so I claculate I may be a few quid in credit unless they apply interest for this month.

Result!! I didn't have to SAR them to calculate my charges myself but am happy to settle at that figure, clear any outstanding amount on the card and then close the account.

One more down, several more to go, but another one ticked off my mental list.

I urge anyone who has been putting off asking for a refund of their credit card charges to do it now. Every little helps.

did you ever get round to scanning the letter received from Barclays and how old were the charges (approx). what I'm getting at is are you happy that they have returned the interest as it was applied (compounded annually) or just given you athe flat rate of 10.9% on the amount of charges refunded regardless of the age of the charge?

absolutely great advice got an old barclaycard about 15 years ago loads of charges I AM SURE WILL SEND OFF letter as above including asking for breakdown etc as advised asap.

Sorry Jax, just spotted your post, I have no idea what rate they applied. As mentioned before, in hindsight I should have included that they send me a detailed breakdown of how they calculated their figures.

So basically you left them to calculate charges and interest?? Yes ... very trusting of you.

Any idea what rate of interest they applied??

Hi Jax

I sent the letter as is, I hadn;t SAR'd them for a list of charges, hadn't mentioned a rate of interest etc. I simply "trusted" them to calculate it truthfully. I estimate that it is as near as damn it and was only interested in getting the remaining balance reduced/removed.

As I mentioned in a post elsewhere, in hindsight, I should have inluded a paragraph insisting they provide me with a breakdown of how they have calculated the amount. I would suggest anyone using this letter adds such a paragraph. I may still send a follow up letter asking them exactly that but as it stands I am satisfied they have calculated it right.

Hiya Jax. He didnt send anything with the letter. See my post #9 above. I sent exactly the same letter for OH's Barclaycard account and got the same reslut in about the same amount of time. There's a thread on mine somewhere too. Okay, you have to trust that they will give you the whole caboodle, but in my case it sounds about right. If you've actually got your statements you could send the same letter but just amend it to add in the actual amount of the charges if you know what it is. Depends how far you want to go with it etc, just think it's a very quick fix and a ot less hassle than we're used to getting, with the bonus of no N1, no court fees etc.

What did you send with this letter?? (list of charges? spreadsheet? and how did you work out CI and at what rate?)

Did you give them a figure for the interest?

Slightly quicker than my OH'S payout. (DPA request sent 24/5/07 money paid into account 25/01/08).

Maybe 8 months of dealing with me softened them up for you .
