i have been advised to follow the chargeback procedure to reclaim the money, in your opinion is this worth a try?
Who advised you to use chargeback?

Will do, I'm determined to fight this now. Always knew bailiffs were dodgy, but after reading everything I have since yesterday morning it's become a personal mission to pull them up on the ridiculous charges and dodgy dealings they think they can get away with. These forums are quite addictive!

            Mr Entrails?

He might get his money back, but he'd then be hassled once more by the bailiff who'd not just clamp the motor car but lift it as well, then demand more cash to return it.

Don't worry I am avoiding chargeback now!

Just about to report the clamp to DVLA, Sussex Police on twitter first told me that DVLA do clamp cars and should have left an INF32 an to contact DVLA. I said that it wasn't DVLA though, and that Marston's bailiffs seem to have 'acquired' a clamp with DVLA on it, no INF32 just £431.89 bill and threats to tow. Sussex Police replied asking me to report to DVLA

DVLA just gave me a number for NSL.

The guy I spoke to at NSL told me that their clamps all had the letters on facing forwards so they have clearly made their own version, and agreed this is obviously fraudulent and misrepresentative. He told me to report it to the police as they shouldn't be clamping anyway, they shouldn't be charging that much money and they shouldn't be pretending to be the DVLA.

                  :faint:

That's a first for Sussex Police. They didn't say it was a civil matter?

Now I have been referred back the police I'm sure they will say that!

Anything in particular I should make sure I say to the police?

I have to go out and will respond when I get back.

Perhaps they don't always shoot from the hip...

You were right, Police say the bailiffs have done nothing that requires a criminal investigation, they are just 'misbehaving'. They just asked me to report to trading standards, which I have done via the Citizens Advice Consumer helpline, who also advised me to speak to the Traffic Penalty Tribunal.

I remember the James Ashley incident and the resignation of Paul Whitehouse. That was not Sussex Police's most glorious moment. In fact, it revealed police corruption going right to the higher echelons of the force. Whitehouse was lucky he did not face prosecution along with those involved in the cover-up.

I am wondering if it is worth speaking to DVLA again and asking them if they would be willing for you to go to the media about this matter.

Indolent and ignorant. Apart from shooting people every few years, one might wonder what good the Sussex Police Farce does.

                              And nothing will happen.
